Developing as a Professional EducatorReflecting back on the CSTP Self-Assessment to My Professional Goal
Describe a professional goal you have for yourself. A professional goal I have for myself is to dedicate more time to professional development. I DO NOT read enough. I see a lot of educators taking the time to constantly read new material. I want to be a life long learner; I want to be constantly growing and have a "growth mindset." I think a lot of times we get this idea that our abilities are what they are and that really is dangerous. How can we expect our students to grow, to be willing to grow, if we don't do that ourselves? So, my goal is...to continue to grow as an educator. Why have you identified this as a need or interest? As much as it is an interest, because I do love to learn, I think it's a necessity for all educators no matter where we are at in our teaching journey. Researchers are always learning new things about how our brains learn, and if we want to be effective educators we need to be up to date with the latest research, technologies, programs, etc. What actions will you take? This summer, my goal will be to read 2 books! I'm not 100% sure what they will be but I would like one to be dedicated to teaching math and one dedicated to teaching reading. How will you assess goal attainment? For me, goal attainment would be finishing the books, being able to share it with other teachers while having an insightful conversation. Also, goal attainment would be if it drives a change in my instruction for the better.
